What do you get when you mix New Orleans Jazz fest partying and Lower East Side NY hipster-chic bars? You get the Mardi Gras Ball at Le Poisson Rouge! Hosted by actress Rosario Dawson, the third annual ball is dedicated to raising funds for the Lower East Side Girls Club.
This great organization (which started in 1996) puts emphasis on educating young inner city girls who are facing poverty, lack of education and other difficult family circumstances. Due to a lack of educational needs for young girls after various mergers (of what is now the Boys and Girls Club), a diverse group of NYC women joined together to form The Girls Club.
The club offers fantastic programs – from arts/entertainment courses to environmental awareness – that work to engage these young girls to have an entrepreneurial and hard-working spirit.
Visit their website to buy tickets (only $20!) for this event and/or learn more about this organization and what you can do to be involved!
